Miss. to Mrs.

Miss. to Mrs.

Miss .to Mrs. is something so exciting. A little girl dreams of her wedding. I mean at least I did. I could not wait to marry the man of my dreams even at 6 years old I would play dress up bride and make the neighbor boy be my husband, Sorry Anthony. I recently was introduced to something called a “styled sessions”. What is a styled session, it is a session you get to practice your portrait photography and participate as a wedding photographer at a wedding without the guest. You network with other professional photographers who are also trying to build their craft. I really enjoy not only getting to plan a wedding but you also get to bounce ideas off of other photographers.

Ring Shots

I want to share this because with the pandemic in 2020, this has left many bride and grooms with changing their wedding date. Canceling a large wedding and opting for a small wedding of family and friends, eloping with just themselves or pushing their date to next year. Such, a stressful time. My heart goes out to each bride, groom and their families who have to even make this decision.

Why the blog today? I wanted to share how My friend and Mentor, My daughter and I planned a wedding (styled session) that taught me trial and error. That helped my portfolio I am proud of. Connecting with the best vendors from the venue, florist ,hair and makeup artist, table scape, jewelry, the cake, the models, and the wedding attire. O’ the wedding dresses. Yep! A real wedding. I will drop the amazing vendors below. Head over and follow them on social media. Hire them for your real wedding.

This leads me to the worry just like a real wedding…. Wait keep reading as it all ends in a happy ending. Feed back, this is where we grow as professional photographers and wedding planning entrepreneurs. Through the process we learn what has worked for vendors and what did not work. We also hear what worked for photographers in attendance and what we need to fix. This allows us to work on another styled session and make it more epic than the last. With saying this I want to thank everyone who took part in the styled session we put together.

A huge thank you to my friend, my mentor. I can only imagine what she goes through working with me. I ask so many questions. She has watched the tears of sadness fall when I am not getting it and tears of joy when I finally after three days of editing morning to night finally celebrating with me when I get a photo just the way I like it. For this I thank you! I want to thank my husband for late nights of planning and a full house of creatives.

Sweet Cheeks CakesTo those who say styled sessions are not like a real wedding, you are correct it is not. We do get to retake that kiss if we miss it. In saying that we do still have many things just like a wedding that can go wrong. What do you do you stay up and refresh the weather app every 30 minutes in hope the predicted rain does not ruin the day. Then on the day of the styled wedding we pray that the rain holds off till every photographer gets thier perfect outdoor photos before the thunderstorm comes through. Than when the rain does appear, Your group of photographers run into the greenhouse and pile in and take turns photographing the bride and groom, help the bride and groom stay positive that these photos will be perfect. As you can see in some ways we still have to worry but, in the end you find happiness because you deliver a gallery that the couple is happy to display to their model agent, or if it is a real husband and wife they can hang these beautiful portraits on the wall or create a beautiful coffee table album.

I am so proud of this styled session and more sessions that we are planning in months to come. I hope you will follow our journey of styled sessions we have planned and  the real weddings we will continue to do. The pandemic has hit all of us and honestly we all have felt defeat. I did not really know how this year was going to go with Rekart Photography going full time in telling love stories. I did know that I was not going to give up. I knew I was going to have to put in a lot of work to build a skill that is built on hard work, late nights and pivoting to online learning. In saying this Rekart Photography is here to help you with your real engagement and weddings.
