Tips to prepare for your newborn session. You may feel can overwhelmed , However I am here to help you so this experience doesn’t feel so overwhelming. You want to look back on these photos and remember These moments. You want to remember those sweet little features your baby has. From the tip of their toes to their sweet little nose.
Before your session
BEFORE YOUR SESSION:
You want baby to try to stay awake so you get all them sleepy poses. Giving baby a bath the morning of your session. Ne sure to dress your baby in something easy to take off, I suggest to all my parents a zipper pajamas, nothing that has to go over baby’s head. This step is huge as if you have to remove items over baby’s head they get upset and this makes the session off to a hard start for baby. I also suggest feeding baby either right before leaving your home if you live close to studio you might want to feed baby in studio at arrival. Of course I want to keep your baby as close to their normal feeding schedule as possible. I will have plenty of time for breaks and snuggles if your baby becomes fussy and needs another chance to eat or be changed.
WHAT TO BRING:
•Diapers and wipes if you have a particular brand.
Pacifier. Many times this helps baby calm and help fall back to sleep
•Extra formula, for formula-fed babies. If you’re breastfeeding, be prepared to nurse.
•Siblings coming to the session? I do parent and sibling photos first. I suggest having the other parent or grandparent take the older kids to the park, lunch or if you live close back home until baby session is over. Why? Siblings do not normally like to stay in our studio and they tend to get bored and this at times stresses parents. It is easiest to have a game plan.
•Back to baby… Sentimental item if you choose to bring one with you. If you have something you want to incorporate a heirloom in the session.
DURING YOUR SESSION
Newborn sessions with me can last anywhere between 2 to 3 hours. This allows me plenty of time for newborn portraits, as well as sibling, parent and group family portraits. Your baby may need to be changed or be fed between posing, this is 1000% why I allot this time. I work on baby time. Baby will guide me through their session, after all they are the new boss in town. I work at baby’s pace, always with baby’s safety and comfort as this is my number 1 priority. My studio is stocked with everything we will need for your newborn session – including props, outfits, wraps, head bands, hats. I am adding outfits monthly to fit our little babies.
WHAT TO WEAR
The studio is kept pretty warm for your baby, so dressing in layers is always my suggestion. I use a gray backdrop for my parent and sibling photos. I suggest wearing light neutrals, and solids work best. This minimize any color casts on your baby’s skin. Want more suggestions? My favorite in studio colors are lighter grey, white, and cream colors. These colors always look great in portraits! Try to stay away from any shirts or outfits with large logos and busy patterns. For sibling, parents, and family portraits, you want to coordinate, but not match. This helps bring you into your photo and not distract your eye away from baby. They are the focal point of the session.
Your newborn grows quickly, and they’re changing on a daily basis. If you’re interested in a newborn session or are ready to book with me please call the studio (636)584-5274 contact me on our contact me tab.
