Welcome Baby Evie

When Evie and her family shared Evie’s story I knew I wanted to tell this little girls story with you. I am sharing with Mom’s approval for anyone who wondered if I am sharing a story that is not my own. Have you heard of Gastroschisis?

First let me introduce you to this warrior.

This is sweet Evie

Evie was born 5 weeks early. Evie was born a preemie. Evie was also born with Gastroschisis. Gastroschisis is a birth defect where a hole in the abdominal (belly) wall beside the belly button allows the baby’s intestines to extend outside of the baby’s body. The hole can be small or large and sometimes other organs, such as the stomach and liver, can be found outside of the baby’s body.

I had more research to do before I decided to share Evie’s story with you. I have never heard of gastroschisis. Meeting Evie and spending time with her and hearing what this little girl had gone through in her short life I wanted to learn more about what she has gone through and what she will go through. The most common complication that children with gastroschisis experience is  slow growth , acid reflux which may include frequent vomiting, and malabsorption. This typically improves over time; there are exception with children who have Short Bowel Syndrome as a result of lost bowel. I learned that Evie does have acid reflux as well.

Evie is mighty and she definitely is a little fighter. Evie is 6 months old. She is absolutely beautiful. Evie does not have a belly button due to her being born with gastroschisis.

Evie did our Cocoa Cup a little differently, I created a set safer for her with a cocoa blanket instead of water.

Evie is truly a miracle.

I love all the little details mom asked me to take.

Thank you for sharing your story!
